NASA Rover Finds Evidence of Ancient Martian Rivers

NASA’s Mars rovers have uncovered new geological evidence suggesting that the Red Planet once hosted stable, long-lasting rivers. Rock formations and sediment patterns closely resemble riverbeds found on Earth.

Scientists believe that Mars may have had a much thicker atmosphere in its early history, allowing liquid water to remain stable on the surface for thousands or even millions of years.

The findings are particularly important because they increase the likelihood that Mars once had conditions suitable for microbial life. Areas with clay minerals and layered sediments are now considered top targets for future missions.

Researchers are also investigating whether traces of ancient subsurface water may still exist today, potentially protected beneath layers of rock and ice.
